Metal Paint

Can you paint a door knob, knocker, and mail slot?

We are totally redoing the front of the house - all new landscaping, porch addition, new shutters, fresh paint on rails, etc...and we have ugly bright gold door knocker, mail slot, knob and dead bold. The bright gold doesn't go so well with the rest of the landscaping and such now, and instead of replacing it all, I wondered if there was a way I could brush on some metal paint or something that could change it to a brushed or antiqued copper or pewter look to soften down the screaming bright gold...anyone know how I could go about this?

Yes, you can.

Go to your hardware store, pick up a can of primer for metal, and then pick up a can of spray paint in the color you like. Paint the primer on, wait an hour, and then put the spray paint on lightly, wait another hour and then put another light coat of paint on. Take you time with spray paint, keep your distance from the hardware and you'll end up with a nice finish.
