Do I have to worry about copper toxicity in a copper kettle lined with tin on the inside?
Do I have to worry about copper toxicity in a copper kettle lined with tin on the inside if the tin plating on the inside wears down? I hear copper is pretty toxic in all forms. Any idea if the copper on the inside will turn into copper oxide and fall off into the water? Or are all copper kettles alloyed to prevent that sort of thing?
I f you had to worry about copper toxicity then no home in the US or world for that matter would have copper pipes for water supply plumbing....If anything you would have to worry about the tin or zinc depending how is applied. I wouldn't worry to much if it was made recently, because there are new application processes for applying coatings to kettles that are 100% safe. Now if this is an antique then I may want think about it since i forget who, like Admiral Byrd or whoever that died in the arctic from their Tin cans tainting all the food that was in them...
